how it works
How the tree planting scheme works
-
You buy one of our special big cartons.
-
Then register your code online (it takes less than a minute).
-
We donate money on your behalf to plant the trees. Our target is a massive 100,000 trees. That's the equivalent of 200 football pitches.
-
Tree planting schemes are established in rural India (where we grow our mangoes) and Africa.
-
Local community groups buy and plant seedlings of the species of their choice. Groups are encouraged to choose species that will provide a variety of different benefits - shade, soil protection, crops, medicine, food etc.
-
After the first six months, the community receives quarterly payments for looking after each tree. These payments go on for 10 years, at which point the trees are mature and can survive on their own. This income can represent up to 15% of a family's total income, depending on how many trees they plant.
-
As the trees mature they can provide crops for income or food for the local community. The tree planting project also provides ongoing education on sustainable agriculture for the local community.
-
Checks continue for another 20 years so the life of all trees planted is guaranteed for at least 30 years.
